The group you'll be a part of

The Office of the CTO is where innovation takes center stage. We inspire our global technicalcommunity to take on grand challenges, understand emerging trends, identify the criticalinflections, and drive our sustainability, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) practicesthat will define the next generation of semiconductors and continued impact.

The impact you'll make

As a Process Modeling Engineer at Lam, you will connect plasma science, process engineering, and predictive modeling to solve complex engineering challenges. Using Lam's internal physics-based modeling software, you'll build, calibrate, and validate models that capture how plasma etch and deposition processes shape structures on the wafer. You'll apply expertise in process engineering, plasma physics, chemistry, and materials science to identify root causes, generate actionable insights, and help teams meet demanding customer requirements. You will also train engineers to use modeling tools and partner with developers to define new capabilities, test releases, and maintain product quality.

What you'll do
  • Develop physics-based process models and support the creation of virtual twins using Lam's internal process-modeling software.
  • Apply expertise in plasma physics and process chemistry to identify root causes, generate actionable insights, and help process engineering teams meet demanding customer requirements.
  • Partner with process engineers to design studies, collect and model data, analyze results, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with product managers and developers to translate user needs into clear requirements and user stories while ensuring the necessary application capabilities are available.
  • Support software releases and train new users.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned applications and take ownership of their successful adoption and support.
Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience; master's degree with 8+ years; PhD with 5+ years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing Python scripts and using Python libraries for data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity.
  • Strong technical foundation in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience solving multivariable problems using advanced data-analysis methods.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor unit-process development and integration.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing needs, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams, customers, and internal and external partners.
Preferred qualifications
  • Expertise in plasma physics and the operation of plasma-based deposition and etch chambers.
  • Familiarity with plasma and virtual fabrication simulation tools, such as SEMulator3D, COMSOL, HPEM, CFD-ACE+, or Monte Carlo feature-scale simulators.
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor process development for deposition and etch applications, with practical experience in process modeling.
  • Comfort leading technical discussions and translating complex results into clear recommendations.
