About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Nurse II, III, or IV to join our dedicated Dentistry team to help provide exemplary patient care and customer service. This position plays a vital role in providing clinical support for the veterinary staff. Performing dental cleanings and semi-routine tasks such as preparing the dental suite for clinical operations, instrument handling during procedures, and monitoring of consumables are among the many engaging responsibilities of this role. Nurses are given the opportunity to advance their skillset through continuing education and various learning experiences. Working hours for Veterinary Nurses in this position will include daytime hours Monday-Friday. Excellent communication and leadership skills are utilized daily in this position.

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • For Veterinary Nurse II:

    • Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and two years of relevant experience.


  • For Veterinary Nurse III:

    • Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and five years of relevant experience as a veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) after passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam.


  • For Veterinary Nurse IV:

    • Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and five years of relevant experience as a veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) after passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam.
    • Completion of an approved NAVTA Veterinary Technician Specialty certification and maintaining of credentials based on NAVTA criteria.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • For All Veterinary Nurses:

    • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
    • Skilled in interpersonal and written communication.
    • Skilled in basic computer skills.
    • Be willing to master new techniques.
    • Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals.
    • Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in high intensity environment.
    • Ability to perform general diagnostic procedures.
    • Skilled in time management and prioritizing daily responsibilities.
    • Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.


  • For Veterinary Nurse II:

    • Advanced knowledge of nursing care and assigned service requirements and policies.


  • For Veterinary Nurse III:

    • Ability to be a self-starter and be proactive in assisting others.
    • Advanced knowledge of nursing care and assigned service requirements and policies.


  • For Veterinary Nurse IV:

    • In depth knowledge and skills in designated NAVTA specialties which supports and assists veterinarians that practice in academic settings.
    • Ability to advance the profession of veterinary nursing through advocacy, awareness, and professional development.
    • Skilled in preparing course materials, providing presentations, and assisting with teaching in clinical labs.




Other Requirements:



  • The College of Veterinary Medicine requires that new hires in any level must obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within 6 months of employment.
