Description

Summary/Purpose of the Position:

The Environmental Chambers Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of environmental chambers used for simulating various climatic conditions to test products, materials, and components. This role involves ensuring the chambers meet specific performance criteria and adhere to industry standards, facilitating accurate and reliable testing environments.

Essential Duties, Functions and/or Responsibilities:

Design and Development



  • Conceptualize and design environmental chambers to simulate conditions such as temperature, humidity, pressure, and other environmental factors
  • Utilize CAD software (Inventor or equivalent) to create detailed designs and specifications for new chambers and modifications to existing equipment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand testing requirements and integrate these into chamber designs


Testing and Validation



  • Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance of environmental chambers
  • Conduct calibration and maintenance of chambers to ensure accurate and reliable test conditions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with chamber performance, working to maintain optimal functionality


Project Management



  • Manage projects from conception through to completion, including budgeting, timeline management, and coordination with suppliers and vendors
  • Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and documentation
  • Creation of new products related to the Chambers product line, to include concept, design, drawing creation, compilation of Bill of Materials, calculation of performance, and assist in sourcing of components as applicable


Compliance and Safety



  • Ensure all chambers and testing processes comply with relevant industry standards and regulations
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment


Technical Support



  • Provide technical support and training to laboratory personnel and other users of environmental chambers
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance manuals for chambers
  • Support sales and customers for technical inquiries relating to existing and conceptual Chamber models


Qualifications & Experience

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is required
  • 3+ years of practical chambers experience; refrigeration background is required
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining environmental chambers or similar is required
  • Proficient with schematics and circuit diagrams, engineering drawings, BOM and indentured parts lists
  • Working knowledge in mechanical assembly methods and electrical processes including wire cutting, striping, splicing, contact or terminal crimping, marking, solder sleeve, heat shrinking and soldering
  • Experience with electrical testing including continuity and insulation resistance desired
  • Experience with process controllers and related software is preferred
  • Working knowledge of ERP / MRP in a manufacturing environment desired
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and well-developed listening skills are required to deal effectively with a diverse audience and a large number of projects
