The San Franciscooffice of SmithGroupis looking for aSenior Landscape Architectto join our team.

Working with us, you will:



  • Work in a collaborative, integrated environment, teaming with other design professionals to compile data and prepare design solutions.
  • Supervise the preparation of landscape architectural drawing for all phases on projects of various sizes, specifically in the technical aspects of landscape architecture.
  • Direct team members and others in the application of landscape architectural standards and guidelines.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Consult with product manufacturers, evaluate and select construction materials, and finalize construction document details.
  • Use in depth knowledge of trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials, and annuals in preparing planting plans and technical details / specifications.
  • Lead in editing technical specifications and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Lead and mentor construction administration and observation
  • Establish and manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Manage contractor and client relations during construction for larger and more complex projects.
  • Participate in design meetings, conduct design work sessions and visioning, outreach and public forums.
  • Participate in marketing efforts including proposal development, interview participation and presentations (this includes proposal writing and scope and fee negotiation).
  • Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.
  • Travel as needed for project work.



An ideal candidate has:



  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture or equivalent.
  • 10 or more years of professional experience.
  • Landscape Architectural registration required.
  • LEED AP and / or SITES AP preferred.
  • Proficiency in current design software including Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $104,000 to $122,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
