Oversees operations of the Mercyhealth Mammography Departments; plans, assigns, supervises and reviews work of staff involved in the delivery of mammography services. Assists Mammography Supervisor with regulatory compliance (MQSA, ACR, EQUIP, Physicist Testing) Ensures staffing plan is adequate and staff is in compliance. Ensures equipment is maintained and QA/QC testing is performed and in compliance. Maintains ARRT certification in Mammography and performs mammography and other advanced level procedures under the direction of a radiologist. Maintains patient records in accordance with the Mammography Reporting System and regulatory bodies.


Responsibilities

* Assists with staffing schedules as needed.

* Participates in interview processes, hiring decisions, and new personnel orientation and that staff is trained in compliance with regulations.

* Acts as preceptor for new staff technologists

* Serves as leadership resource to the radiology groups.

* Manages customer concerns and occurrences; implements service recovery efforts.

* Oversight and participation in mammography QA/QC functions. Run reports from the mammography reporting system. Insures that patient letters are mailed weekly, follows up on patients that are overdue for mammograms and insures there is a process for calling patients and getting them scheduled. Insures that mammograms are reported out within the standard set by MQSA Mammography dashboards are reviewed daily.

* Participation in regulatory inspections and maintenance of essential certifications and accreditations.

* Continually reviews and revises pertinent patient flow functions.

* Ensures equipment periodic maintenance and service is completed.

* Insures chargemaster and CPT codes are current. Charges are entered correctly and PACS QA issues that arise are resolved quickly.

* Staff productivity is met in accordance with Mercyhealth System measures.

* Performs screening, diagnostic, and biopsy procedures to assist in the diagnosis of breast disease.

* Performs Bone Densitometry procedures as required.

* Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.

* Moves imaging equipment into specified position, determines appropriate exposure factors based on patient characteristics to

produce optimal mammographic imaging studies.

* Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.

* Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.

* Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician.

* Reviews patient schedules to ensure that that scheduling of exams is appropriate and that call back exams are performed within 5 days. Diagnostic mammograms should be scheduled for return within 3 to 5 days.

* Appointment back logs should be addressed and a plan put in place to reduce the back log wait times.


Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited radiography and mammography training program Three years experience as a mammographer required

Supervisory experience preferred.

Epic Mammography experience required.


Certification/Licensure

ARRT certified in Radiography and Mammography

Bone Densitometry certification preferred but not required.

IEMA-DNS and/or WI DSPS

CPR Certification

Specific vision abilities required by this job include frequent close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
