What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS' NNSA Operations & Programs operates the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise (SRTE), the nation's only facilities for extracting, recycling, purifying and reloading tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen that is a key element of modern nuclear weapons. SRTE supports five tritium and gas transfer system-related missions on behalf of NNSA: tritium supply, stockpile maintenance, stockpile evaluation, helium-3 recovery, and research and development (R&D).

This position is a civil/structural engineer in SRTE that will report to the Facilities and Systems Engineering Organization and will develop conventional engineering solutions. This position is responsible for SRNS specific systems and requirements for accomplishing various tasks. The candidate selected for this role will demonstrate leadership skills, work with minimal supervisory guidance, and mentor less senior professionals.

Perform the following tasks relative to specific facility operational needs:
- Maintaining assigned systems, structures, and/or components (SSCs) for assigned area and/or function, including buildings, structures, and glovebox secondary confinement systems
- Miscellaneous structural analysis and calculations for equipment anchoring, pipe stress, roof loading, fall protection (fall arrest and fall restraint), and scaffolding
-Structural analysis for impact loads, overpressure, and other accident conditions
- Perform and document visual inspections under the Structural Integrity Program
- Evaluate movement of loads over buildings and assist with development of critical lift controls for mobile cranes and other lifting devices under the Critical Lift Program
- Assess concrete barrier relocations under the Traffic Control Program

Other duties include:
- Development of Scopes/Statements of Work for proposed modifications or designs to support Operations or Maintenance requests
- Work directly with operations and maintenance personnel to maintain system operability
- System Configuration Control to include minor design development, component replacement, facility walkdowns, drawing reviews/updates, procedure development/review /approval, preventive maintenance identification
- Usage of local, State and Federal/National Codes and Standards
- Work package/system maintenance review and Approval- Work with Design or Project Management organizations on large scale designs and projects
- Maintain consistency between the Safety Basis/Technical Baseline and facility physical configurations

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

Must have ability to walk down systems in the field.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Qualifications We Desire

Experience in 2D Microstation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) is preferred.
Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques within Civil Engineering.
Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
